![]() ![]() Posey Lake and other high-elevation Boulder-area lakes are located just north of the road, a little farther up the mountain. Trails allow adventurers to descend into that canyon. On its western end, the road runs above the deep canyon cut by Pine Creek. Several trailheads allow hikers/backpackers to access various parts of the wilderness. In that area it follows contours just above the Box/Death Hollow Wilderness Area, and provides outstanding views down into rugged canyons. It was built by CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) workers during the Great Depression era.Ībout mid-way along the route, the road crosses the historic old, wooden Hells Backbone Bridge. It runs from juniper desert up into the lush pine and aspen forest on Boulder Mountain. Hells Backbone Road is gravel, graded occasionally, and suitable for family cars during dry weather. That road comes north of out the town of Escalante, allowing travelers to complete a 38-mile loop back down to Hwy 12. From there it runs west, climbing halfway up Boulder Mountain to connect with the Posey Lake/Pine Creek Road. The road forks from All American Highway 12 near the town of Boulder. The Hells Backbone Road is a winding route that follows ridges and mountain contours through the area. We are unable to split checks for parties larger than 6 people.Hell's Backbone is a rugged area that bridges between towering Boulder Mountain on the north and canyons cut by the the Escalante River and its tributaries on the south. If you are running late, we will hold the table for 15 minutes, after that your table will be released. Your credit card will only be charged if your group is a no-show, or if your group size decreases by more than 1 person without advance notice. We will call you a week or so before your reservation to confirm group numbers, any dietary allergies, and take credit card information. We are trying to sweetly accommodate the many people who have traveled from far away to dine with us! Once seated, you will have your table for 2 hours, which should be plenty of time to enjoy a meal with us. We will do everything we can to have the table ready within the 15-minute window, we appreciate your patience. ![]() Please have your entire party ready at the early side of the reservation (i.e. 6/6:15 pm) signify that the table should be ready within this time frame. Large group reservations are available at the following times: 4 pm, 6/6:15 pm, 7:30/7:45 pm.
